To the lighthouse

Virginia Woolf representations of stream of consciousness in “To the lighthouse” the narrator speak in the third person and portray the characters and action, or we can say that story develops through the flow of thoughts in the minds of the characters. Virginia Woolf has often use this technique to give the novel its special character of seeming to be always within the consciousness of the chief characters. She tries to deconstruct the idea of patriarchal power structure. She tries to satire of that power structure so that’s also stream of consciousness technique. For example Mrs.Ramsay wanted to make her daughter like her, so we can compare Virginia and her daughters in the novel. The second thing is stream of consciousness. Stream of consciousness is a style of writing. In narrative technique use two basic types of inferior monologue. Direct Inferior Monologue and Indirect Inferior Monologue. In this novel she also used technique of Brackets and Parenthesis.
Mrs. Ramsay was chief character in the novel she was portrayed as the kind mother and wife. Mrs. Ramsey is a critical thinker of a different sort than is usually expected. According to Woolf Mrs. Ramsey is a great amount of dignity, Mrs. Ramsay is a great amount of dignity. Mrs. Ramsay is traditional women who believed in sacrifice her life for her own family. She tries to make her family happy. She has all the qualities which were presented into a house wife she is a beautiful and loving women. We can say that in Lily Briscoe painting she represents a struggle against gender convention, represented by Charles Tinsley’s statement that women cannot paint.
In “To the lighthouse”, Virginia Woolf uses a variety of myths. Joseph Blotner has also use the myth like the Pagan myth or Oedipus myth. The pagan myth represent ancient goddesses and it is described the chief role of female character. In “To the Lighthouse” the female role like the mother, and mother remain become the center, mother is controlling one or all. Oedipus is a Greek mythological character based on the myth of “Oedipus Rex” was written by Sophocles. Oedipus who unwittingly kills his father, Laius and marries his mother Jocasta.  In this novel James who was a son of the Mrs.Ramsay. He loves his mother deeply and feels a murderous antipathy toward his father.

'Künstlerroman’ is a German term which is about the somebody’s life or Artist’s novel, or we can say which describes development or a struggle of an artist as in ‘To the Lighthouse’ Lily’s character and the novel, itself is a struggle of an artist. She wants to prove her intelligence in front of men.

In Literature symbol is anything which signifies. The symbol of Refrigerator it is a preserve thing and it is the symbol of change also Refrigerator its change of technology changing and presumably improving human culture. Refrigerator it is symbol of central character Mrs.Ramsay that she always tries to preserve the refine form of culture as it is her responsibility. It is suggestion to James from Mrs.Ramsay to cut refrigerator from the catalog of Army and Navy. The refrigerator is an instrument of science, and it occupies the same sphere as the lighthouse.
